41st Annual Mayor’s Arts Awards

May 9, 2019

About The Event

Mayor Chris Beutler and the Lincoln Arts Council (LAC) have announced the winners of the 2019 Mayor’s Arts Awards, to be presented at the Pinnacle Bank Arena on Thursday, May 9th.

The theme for the 41st annual event is “Starry Night”, and begins at 5:30 pm with a cocktail reception. Back by popular demand, local artists are creating original Art Boards (8in x 4ft), inspired this year by van Gogh. They will be on display during the event and are available for purchase to benefit LAC.

The cocktail reception is followed by dinner and the awards presentation. The Mayor and LAC will pay tribute to the winners who each will receive an original art piece by internationally renowned Nebraska artist Stephen Dinsmore.

There will be a live performance by pianist and UNL professor Paul Barnes with the student ensemble The Amore Quartet. They will play the first movement of Philip Glass’s Piano Quintet “Annunciation”. The piece received its world premiere at an 80th birthday anniversary concert last year at the Lied Center called A Celebration of Philip Glass. That concert is the winner of the Mayor’s Arts Awards Outstanding Event Award.

“Starry Night” continues with the Winners Reception on the Capitol Terrace overlooking the Railyard in the Haymarket District. The Cube will feature the winners' testimonial videos shown earlier in the evening.
